Shockers '98 Make state Cup Final!
CGSA’s U/13 Shockers are through to the final of the Presidents State Cup after an outstanding weekend in the group stages and semi-finals. The U/13 Shockers will now head to Atlanta for state cup final on Saturday May 18th for the chance to represent Georgia in the Regional finals in June. On their way to the final the Shockers ’98 beat Cobb FC Gold (4-0),AFC Lightning (5-4) and Cobb FC Blue (2-0) and KennesawGold (3-2).

Fall 2012 Academy/Select Try - Out Information
CGSA will be holding their annual state mandated try-outs for their successful U/9 - U/12 Academy teams and U/13 - U/19 Select teams on the following dates/times (please click on link below). It is recommended players pre-register to avoid waiting in line, although players can also register at the fields on the nights that the try-outs are held. The CGSA try-outs last for three evenings and it is advised that players looking to play on the CGSA attempt to make all three session.

U/12 Boys Barca Have Great Showing At Academy State Cup
CGSA’s U/12 Boys Barca finished with the 3rd best overall record at Academy State Cup in Gainesville, GA. Playing in the top 11 v 11 group, the U/12 Boys only missed going to the finals after a narrow defeat to eventual champions Concorde Fire. After resounding wins over Augusta Arsenal and Savannah Soccer Academy, the U/12 Barca team finished with a record of 2-0-1. The 5-1 win over Augusta meant that the U/12 Barca team scored 6 goals and conceded only 3. Their weekend total of 6 pts and plus 3 in goal differential was the third best out of all the teams.
Hodgson Appointed New England Head Coach
CGSA has sent it’s congratulations to Roy Hodgson on is appointment as England’s new Head Coach. The English Football Association made the announcement for the most prestigous job in soccer on Tuesday May 1st. Hodgson is a long time friend of CGSA Executive Director Gary Wright, and also in more recent times has become a friend of CGSA board members Michael Wakely, Kevin Mccarthy and Greg Sedlock. Over the last few years the the four CGSA representatives have visited with Hodgson when he was head coach at Fulham, Liverpool and more recently at WBA.

U/12 Rovers take U/13 Division Title
Congratulations to the U/12 Rovers for adding the first bit of ’silverware’ to the CGSA trophy cabinet for the spring 2012 season. The U/12 group who have been playing up at U/13 age this spring, ended their season with a perfect 9-0-0 record. The team scored a combined 40 goals during their 9 league games and conceded only 10 goals. CGSA Executive Director said " All the U/12 boys have been part of this success because the training enviroment has been excellent. Even the players who have played on the 8 v 8 group should a big part of this achievement.
Rovers '97 Win Boy's Rule Tournament
The Rovers ’97 team started off the 2012 year in real positive fashion by winning the CGSA Boys Rule tournamnet which was held at the end of January. The Classic I team are looking to build on this momentum as they enter their second full season in Classic I which will start in March. On their way to becoming champions the team beat Charlotte Soccer Academy 5-1, Alliance FC 4-0, Palmetto United Boys Gold 2-1 and then Inter Atlanta FC Blue 2-0 in the final. After a tough fall season this was a real great way to start of the new year.

Two More Highly Qualified Coaches Join CGSA Coaching Staff!
CGSA increased it’s already highly qualified coaching staff this past week with the arrival of two more highly qualified soccer coaches to the club. Keith Drittler, a USSF ’B’ licensed coach,who worked with high level teams in the Michigan area agreed to join CGSA and will work with the current U/12 Academy Boys. And Jessica Chipple,a former college player and also a UFFS ’B’ licenced coach joined the club recently from Richmond Hill where she was director of their academy program. Jessica will work with various age groups withing the CGSA structure.

U/16 Rovers Secure 2nd Place to Move to Classic I
The U/16 Rovers were determined not to let the CGSA Girls select teams grab all the headlines this fall and secured Classic I soccer for themsleves by wining their final league game 3-1 over Lanier Sharks. This result meant the Rovers ’95 team locked up the runners-up spot in the division with a 8-2-1 record and they can now look forward to playing in the states higest division for the fall 2012 season. Congratulations to the Rovers team,their coach John Clarkson and team manager Aileen!
Shockers '98,'96 and '95 Continue The Clubs Select Team Success!
The fall 2011 was truly a remarkable season for three of CGSA’s girls select teams. The Shockers ’96 team were crowed Athena ’B’ champions on the last weekend of their season and will advance to the highest division in the state of Georgia, Athena ’A’ division for the fall 2011 season. This is even more incredible when you consider the team were a mid-table ’C’ division team only a couple seasons ago.
